Post Title: Consultant; Team Leader (TL)/Nutritionist (Indigenous Food)
Project: Sustainable insect farming and harvesting for better nutrition, improved food security, and household income generation

Duty Station: Vientiane, with frequent travel in the provinces

Duration: WAE 160 days over 24 months (four 30 day missions and home-based working days)

Under the technical supervision of the Lead Technical Unit at the FAO Regional Office and the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Lao PDR the consultant will:
• Have the overall technical responsibility for the project implementation, including advice and supervision to project personnel to ensure the accomplishment of project outputs in line with the project document;
• Coordinate and facilitate a productive working relationship among all project stakeholders, including counterparts, implementing agencies, and beneficiaries, as well as proactively establish contacts with other relevant national and international institutions; organize regular briefings/planning meetings at country level to clarify issues related to the project;
• Jointly with the project team, revise, detail and prioritise the work plan for the project based on the listed project outputs and activities, including preparing a travel and training schedule as well as outlining project staff roles and responsibilities and project management arrangements;
• Provide technical, operational and organizational support for the timely identification and preparation of agreements and in the planning, preparation, and scheduling of consultancy missions;
• Coordinate the procurements needs and assist in preparation of technical specifications for purchased materials;
• Supervise the establishment and the subsequent management of an demonstration/pilot insect farming site managed by a group of beneficiaries in Vientiane Capital; coordinate the project staff support, knowledge transfer and training needs for the site;
• Coordinate the preparation of various training materials, communication and IEC materials;
• Coordinate the process of drafting of insect guidelines/best practices;
• Coordinate and facilitate trainings and promotional events at the macro and micro levels on sustainable insect farming/harvesting and nutrition/food security;
• Prepare reports including a baseline and end-of-project analytical monitoring and evaluation report, quarterly reports and annual work plans and budgets and the Terminal Statement;

Qualifications:
• Post-graduate degree in entomology, agro-forestry, food security/nutrition or closely related field.
• The appropriate and proven project management skills as well as technical knowledge related to edible insects, insect/livestock production, food security and nutrition, community development, and education.
• Minimum seven years of working experience in similar subject with minimum three years of project management experience in developing countries.
• Good understanding of policy level development and capacity strengthening requirements of national government agencies.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate and write professional documents in English (level C).
• Working experience in the region and especially familiarity with Lao PDR and the Lao language is beneficial.

This is a Technical Cooperation among Developing Countries position (applicants should be from developing countries).
