Concern Worldwide is an international relief and development organization working in Lao PDR since 1992, and is looking to recruit a qualified and motivated Lao national for the following position:

Water and Sanitation Engineer (WATSAN)

Job Location: Houameuang District, Houaphanh Province (with regular traveling to project areas in Houameuang)

Key Responsibilities:
 Assist feasibility studies/report of proposed infrastructure and rehabilitation activities related to water and sanitation and health infrastructure
 Develop infrastructure designs of water supply and sanitation systems in collaboration with counterparts
 Assist in the preparation of accurate budget projections in regards to construction and rehabilitation activities
 Provide WatSan technical support to health infrastructure refurbishments and construction as required
 Ensure that infrastructure can be managed and maintained by local communities and/or local government authorities
 Provide monitoring and support to Lao technicians during the infrastructure construction process
 Support project staff in developing strategies that will promote community ownership of infrastructure projects
 Assist in the preparation of financial and narrative reports for donors
 Support the review and evaluation of projects in relation to impact of infrastructure and related processes
 Design and conduct training on environmental health including basic hygiene and promotion of using clean water for villages
 Develop models for safe solid waste disposal at community level

Essential Qualifications and Skills:
• At least 4 years work experience in water and sanitation sector.
• Bachelors degree in water engineering, environmental health or a related field.
• High level of proficiency in written and spoken Lao and English.
• Excellent understanding of the links between unsafe water and poor health in Lao PDR.
• Experience in carrying out research in relation to village water usage.
• Good computer skills (especially Word and Excel).
• Excellent oral communication, inter personal and networking skills
• Committed to assisting the needs of the poorest people
• Able to build individual and organizational capacity in relation to addressing water and sanitation issues
• Ability to live and work in remote locations with basic facilities
